About the role 

McKay are currently seeking an Electrical Estimator to join our team in Hamilton. The Waikato region is growing, and we need someone who is eager to contribute to the region's success. 

As an Electrical Estimator, you’ll be responsible for calculating the costs of electrical installations by reviewing plans, specifications, and client requirements. You’ll prepare competitive quotes and tenders, estimate materials and labour, and work closely with project managers and clients to ensure accurate pricing and strong project delivery.

In this role, you should expect to spend your time on:

  • Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project requirements.    
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.    
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and overheads.
  • Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals for potential projects.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to secure competitive rates for materials and equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving and value engineering within project designs and plans.
  • Ensure that all estimates and projects comply with relevant codes and standards.
  • Maintain accurate and organised records of estimates, bids, and project-related documentation. 

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in commercial electrical tendering procedures
  • Ability to assess bid documents and identify variances to regulations with safe design
  • Proficient in Excel and Word and ability to multi-task (pricing several projects at once)
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and good time management skills
  • Strong electrical knowledge and some design knowledge 
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field, OR proven experience as an electrical estimator OR in a similar role within the electrical industry).
